Law Libraries And Self-Help

Your local law library and the Civil Law Self-Help Center are both great places to start your search for information about whatever legal problem you might be facing.  They also have a number of helpful resources you can use as your case moves forward.

 

Law Libraries

 

Clark County Law Library

The Clark County Law Library is a public law library open to everyone. There is no fee to use the library.  The law library is located at 309 South Third Street, Suite 400, in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.   • Research assistance.  Research assistance is available at the reference desk. Library staff will happily aid in research by locating and explaining sources.  They can also assist patrons performing legal research with other library functions.  Staff members cannot give legal advice, legal opinions, or provide legal assistance in any manner.
  • Computers.  The law library has public computers available for legal research via the Internet and library database subscriptions to Fastcase and Westlaw.  Computers are also available for the preparation of legal documents.  There is no charge for the use of computers, but print charges of $0.25 per page apply and you must have a photo ID.
  • Photocopiers.  Photocopiers are available for use in the library.  Photocopies are $0.25 per page.  Copy cards are available that reduce the cost per copy to $0.16 per page.
  • Typewriters.  Typewriters are available at the law library.  Paper and supplies are not provided.


College of Southern Nevada West Charleston Campus Library

The West Charleston Campus Library at the College of Southern Nevada has a terrific selection of legal reference materials and resources that are available to the public free of charge, including:

  • Case reporters, court rules and procedure, legal encyclopedias, regulations, restatements of the law, and statutes
  • Legal forms
  • E-books
  • Videos
  • Librarians to provide assistance with your legal research

Wiener-Rogers Law Library

The Wiener-Rogers Law Library supports the William S. Boyd School of Law and is open to the public.  The library is located on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, 1455 East Tropicana Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada.  Click to visit the Wiener-Rogers Law Library website for hours of operation and to learn more about the services available, which include:

  • Reference assistance.  Reference librarians are available to answer ready reference questions and to assist patrons in locating sources and using legal research resources.  Librarians cannot undertake research for public patrons and cannot provide legal advice or interpret sources for patrons.
  • Circulation.  Residents of Nevada may obtain a guest borrower card by completing a guest borrower request form, providing a current Nevada drivers license or other state-issued identification, and paying the applicable fee.

 

Self-Help

 

Civil Law Self-Help Center

The Civil Law Self-Help Center is located on the first floor of the Regional Justice Center at 200 Lewis Avenue in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.  The center is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (except holidays and other non-judicial days when the court is closed).  The staff at the center is prohibited from providing legal advice and is obligated to remain neutral.

Services available at the Civil Law Self-Help Center include:

  • Legal information.  The Self-Help Center provides legal information, educational materials, and training to self-represented litigants regarding court rules, court procedure, and various civil legal topics.
  • Legal forms.  The center staff assists with the identification and completion of legal forms.
  • Community referrals.  The center staff may be able to refer you to other helpful legal and non-legal community resources.
  • Ask-A-Lawyer programs.  The center hosts a weekly Ask-A-Lawyer program, at which litigants can meet with volunteer pro bono attorneys regarding landlord-tenant issues and foreclosure issues.

Family Law Self-Help Center

For family law matters – including divorce, custody, child support, annulments, guardianships, name changes, paternity, and separate maintenance – you can visit the Family Law Self-Help Center.  The center is located at the Family Court and Services Center, 601 North Pecos Road, Las Vegas, Nevada  89101.  Click to visit Family Law Self-Help Center website to learn more about the services offered at the Family Law Self-Help Center, including:

  • Family law forms.  The Family Law Self-Help Center's forms can be downloaded on its website and are available, free of charge, at the center.
